Delta’s Online Newsroom

deltalogoDelta already had one of the best global online newsrooms for reporters, but they wanted to expand even more.  Although another airline’s online newsroom was discussed in a previous blog, I thought we could discuss Delta as well because of their willingness to take the online social media of the company one step further…or should I say five steps forward.

By adding five new language options to Delta’s online media newsroom, Delta was able to create a large network of journalist contacts in their five newest international destinations. In doing this, they expanded their reach even farther, as they already offered Spanish, French, Portuguese and Italian. The following languages were to be newly established:

  1. Hebrew
  2. Danish
  3. Greek
  4. Hungarian
  5. Ukrainian

Some of these languages presented a bit of a challenge because they had to introduce characters from different alphabets into the system and restructure the page so that Hebrew could be read from right to left.

Delta chose TEK Group Int., the public relations software that was also chosen bya few big companies in previous posts including the Detroit Lions football team and Starbucks. TEK Group was able to launch the revamped site within a few weeks of Delta’s request. Once the new online newsroom was launched, Delta was able to keep in touch with  representatives for media outlets in the countries that they accommodated in the media center.

Since Delta added the five new languages, they are better able get coverage in their new international locations. Local media in those regions are now able to give their residents current information about Delta.  Among other elements provided are easy access to the most current news, automatic news release distribution, public relations contact data, efficient search capability etc.

Delta is a a great example of a company that is utilizing this new social media to engage the stakeholders that may need information in other languages. Delta’s efforts should be applauded as they are at the forefront of the new technological way of branding.

Having 9 different languages for their newsroom is very impressive. It is so smart especially for an airlines that travels to these places. It makes them more friendly and open so those countries. Where they can now be updated with news quickly about Delta. Delta’s newsroom is very simple nothing to special with how it looks, but it have the information needed. I think having as many language options as Delta has on their online newsroom site is an extremely impressive idea. Delta airlines is a worldwide corporation and although many of the countries they fly to have English as a primary language or are able to speak it fluently enough to communicate, it really shows a lot of respect for Delta to include so many languages on their site. This is going to gain them a great reputation in media relations as now it is easier for the press in those countries to cover Delta.

I would have to agree with Alyssa and Leslie in that it’s a great idea to have different language options with such international company like Delta. Also, showing that Delta cares about other countries by including their language will only help build their reputation. Well done Delta.

By the way, I like the new theme. Very nice.
